why does this have 32k notes? it’s just a picture of a knife in a ranch bottle, is there some unspoken joke that 32 thousand people share? what is going on here, i dont get it. it’s just a fucking picture of a knife in a ranch bottle. is there some spiritual connection people have to this picture? is there some ominous and mystical reasoning that this has 32 thousand notes? do people reblog this because it makes them look like some indie blogger? or is there just something funny to this? someone please explain
no one tell him
Scheduling this to post on March 15 because it needs to happen.
I love desire paths. There’s something so wonderous about seeing an echo of humanity. Depending on it’s location, a desire path can mean so many different things.
In a city, like the pic above, they represent rebellion, and efficiency. The messiness of humanity. We like to imagine we’re oh so logical and neat so we design our cities to be logical and neat an then real humans literally trample on that idea. The ego required to think you can design something perfect that checks every box. Life is all about compromise and patching stuff when some new problem arises. Though people have certainly tried! Ohio state univeristy let students carve their desire paths, and then paved them over. It looks pretty artsy.
Some people will try to discourage desire paths, but this is almost always going to fail.
Eventually, people just have to accept them. Humans are too dang stubborn.
Certain desire paths are just adorable. A 0.5 second time saver. You just can’t design for maximum efficiency, humans will always find shortcuts!
Though on occasion a desire path can actually be the least efficient way…especially if you’re superstitious.
In a wilder area, such as below, they show us the curiosity of humans. A desire path somewhere natural often tells you there’s something interesting just ahead. (Though remember some ecosystems are fragile and will suffer if trampled! Stick to paths in these sorts of areas)
And how about desire stairs? I always think these look so cool. We get see humans determination to climb, to traverse every kind of terrain.
And for something really crazy…a desire path used for centuries will create a ‘holloway’
All of these pics are off the Desirepath subreddit, check them out for more examples! And many thanks to the users who submitted these photos.
the other day i learned that taking a long time to fall asleep is called “sleep latency” which is just the funniest thing to me tbh
me, tossing and turning until 2 am: the lag…
napping is easy because your brain is connecting to the Sleep Server at low traffic hours for your region.
when everyone is trying to get on the Sleep Server during high traffic hours, night in your region, the lag is at its worst and many people can’t even connect to the server at all that’s why falling asleep at night is hard thank you for coming to my ted talk
This is my life… Being narcoleptic… sleep latency is normal. It’s not insomnia. It’s just… can’t get to sleep. And I can sleep like a champ and sleep for days… but wake up and fall asleep at my desk. Weird…
If you do not understand why someone would want a dog that is scary and may bite someone, consider:
When I was about 12y my parents flew out of the house in the middle of the night and returned home that morning with my nephew who was 6. They had arranged my sister to be transferred to our local hospital instead of the one she was at 2.5hrs away. Why? Because she had confronted her abusive boyfriend and told him she wanted out and that she was taking their son and leaving and the man had responded to that by bouncing her head off the floor and throwing her limp body down the stairs, breaking her back and giving her a serious brain injury. In front of their son.
When my sister recovered enough not just to come to live with us instead of stay in the hospital, but also to work and care for herself again, she moved into a rental house with my nephew and immediately got herself the biggest, meanest dog she could find. The dog was actually a big softy but looking at her charge the front door and slam herself against it when someone knocked was enough to intimidate all but the closest family members who knew she’d melt into a puddle of happy pit bull the second that door was opened.
You can put the pieces together on why she wanted specifically that dog. GSDs weren’t scary enough for her. She wanted a pit bull and rescued a dog with scars and a big bark and never taught that dog how to be more appropriate at the door. When that dog passed away more than a decade later, she got a rottie mix. Same thing. You tell me why this woman wants a big mean-looking dog that may or may not bite in her house.
In a perfect world, women would not need to go to such measures to protect themselves and their children from violent men. In a perfect world, that man would be dead instead of declared missing after no-showing to his court date. In a perfect world, maybe he would not have existed at all. In a perfect world, weapons and aggression would not be necessary.
But it’s not a perfect world, and I think she has every right to get a properly managed big mean dog on the off chance he comes knocking.
Every time I see a movie where a bullied kid wants his bullies to literally and actually die and we’re supposed to take the side that it’s wrong I just tune that out. Yeah it’s a complex web of family and bad social conditions and all that but you don’t know that shit when you’re getting bullied in school, you just want those motherfuckers to pay and personally it’s impossible for me to find that inappropriate or shameful.
Not to keep going back to Chucky, but there’s this great bit in the show where the mean girl is like needling the protag about telling Chucky it’s okay to kill her and she’s all like that’s fucked up and he turns around finally and lets her have it about torturing him every day, harassing him with no way out and he’s miserable for years and murder is bad but you torture a human that long and what do you expect to happen?
I dunno, that’s like the only time I’ve really seen media handle bullying in a competent way. Fuckin killer doll series.
Per the Jan 11th announcement, you can now see posts tagged with banned** tags and view flagged blogs on the iOS app.
To do this, open tumblr in a browser (this setting is not accessible on the iOS app itself) and go to your account settings. Then, click the “Hide Sensitive Content” toggle in the “Filtering” section. This setting is automatically turned on for everyone by default. Here’s what the toggle looks like when it has been turned OFF (it will be highlighted blue when on):
But wait, you’re not done! For this setting to take effect, you must also make sure you’ve updated the tumblr app to version 22.5.2 (or higher). To update the app, go to the app store, click your profile icon in the top right corner, and scroll down until you reach the updates section. If tumblr displays an “Update” button, click it. You can check the version number by clicking “more” in the update description.
If you’ve already updated to version 22.5.2, make sure to restart the app after toggling the sensitive content setting.
That’s it, you’re done!
**This has no effect on anyone using tumblr via any other browser or app. All toggling this setting does is remove the recent iOS-only hardbanned tags and give iOS app users the same tumblr experience as everyone else. The soft ban on certain “NSFW” tags that’s been in effect since the Great Purge of 2018 is still in effect, at least as of right now. To understand the difference between softbanned and hardbanned tags check out my post about it HERE.
Also, a quick note to content creators: Even with this toggle, I would avoid using any of the banned tags whenever possible because posts with those tags will still be completely hidden (in searches and on dashboards) on the iOS app for anyone who doesn’t know about this workaround. Fortunately, it seems tumblr is currently reviewing the list and walking back some of the tags that were originally banned, seemingly for no reason as they had nothing to do with sensitive content. Most have not been reversed yet. Keep an eye on the banned tags list and continue to check tags yourself since @bannedtags doesn’t have all of them.
This solution is better than nothing, but we’re not out of the woods yet.
